Mountain Bike Trails

Hood River has fantastic rides in every directions. From the downtown shop, sweet Mt. biking is just 10 minutes away in the extensive Post Canyon trail system.

The famous Syncline and Washington trail system is just over the Columbia River Bridge in Washington. Shuttle opportunities are everywhere for the downhill crowd.

Post Canyon Trail System

Only 10 minutes from downtown Hood River, this Mt. Bike trail system has it all. The lower section climbs gradually along a small meandering stream crossing back and forth over it 7 times, (which is how the “Seven Streams” trail got it’s name. Up top, there are mind blowing crazy stunts built for experts, and a really fun practice area for learning called “Family Man”. After the climbing effort is over, your reward is 4 miles of smooth, twisty,  screaming single-track all the way home.

You can ride Post Canyon as an out & back, or connect up several trails to make a super fun loop ride. It rides best clockwise and takes about an hour for the full circuit.  Even after riding it 100 times, the Mitchel Ridge-Sidewinder descent never fails to paste a shit eating grin on your face.

Road Rides

If road riding is your passion, five minutes from the shop is the Historic Columbia River Highway – a paved riding paradise for beginning riders and experts alike. It’s a closed paved road – so no cars! Heading east, you’ll connect with smooth, lightly traveled roads and amazing scenery. Heading south, the beautiful Hood River valley stretches 40 miles to Mt. Hood and is filled with back roads and miles of road loops

Hood River has some very special road rides. 5 minutes from the shop is a ‘closed to cars’ piece of the old Columbia Gorge Historic Highway.  A local favorite, it’s 4 miles of smooth blacktop with history, a workout and stunning scenery all wrapped in one. Perfect for families with kids, or a quick out & back lunch ride. Seasoned riders use it to connect out east for 30-50 mile loops on lightly traveled back roads.

Up the valley are many beautiful loops through the orchards with stunning views of 11,000′ Mt. Hood. The Odell loop is a favorite for after work, and the Parkdale loop stacks up a quick 30 miles.

For those seeking extended mileage, once the snow melts in the spring there are fantastic deserted paved forest service roads connecting Wadum Lake and Lost Lake via Lolo Pass. You can even ride all the way around Mt. Hood if you are okay with about 5 miles of it on hard pack gravel road.

On the east side of the valley, awaits an epic leg testing century loop. Head up Hwy 35,  over Hwy 44  through Dufur and The Dalles returning on the Historic Columbia River Hwy.

It takes a long time to use up all the local routes, but when you do – then it’s time to explore the Washington side!
